Muse

Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, launched on 8 September 2026. You message it like a person in the Muse app or WhatsApp, and it runs errands for you from its own secure virtual machine. It hit the top of the App Store within days.

Overview

Muse is built around messaging. You talk to it in the Muse app for iPhone and Android, on muse.ai, in the Mac app, or directly in WhatsApp, and it handles shopping, travel booking, email and payments. You can name it and design its avatar.

Each user gets a dedicated Muse Secure VM that holds both the agent and your data. Meta says a Confidential VM, encrypted with a key only you hold, will follow later in 2026. Muse asks for approval before sensitive actions and suggests ideas on its own.

Growth was explosive, with roughly 2.8 million downloads in two weeks, and so were the problems. Amazon blocked Muse from its store, a security researcher found a flaw that could expose a user's VM, and one user reported that Muse shared his home address with a Marketplace buyer and accepted lowball offers without asking.

Safety controls

A dedicated Secure VM per user, approval prompts before sensitive actions and in-app safety warnings. A Confidential VM with user-held encryption keys is promised for later this year.

Is Meta Muse really free?

Why does Amazon block Muse?

Amazon says Meta never asked permission, Muse does not identify itself when it browses and it appears to store customers' Amazon credentials. Users who try to shop there see a warning that unauthorised agents violate Amazon's conditions of use.
