Claude

On 16 September 2026 Anthropic merged Claude Cowork and Claude Design into ordinary Claude conversations. Ask a quick question or hand over a report due at noon, and Claude decides whether to answer or take on the task, even after you close your laptop.

Overview

Claude used to have separate modes for chat, bigger work (Cowork) and visual work (Design). People found it frustrating to decide where a task belonged, so Anthropic folded them into one experience. Connectors, skills, recurring work and browser abilities from Cowork carry over into every conversation.

Claude is the most document-focused of the agents. It hands back research, reports, spreadsheets with working formulas and presentations as editable files. Claude Docs and Claude Slides launched in beta the same day and export to PowerPoint or PDF.

It is less of a consumer errand runner: it does not live in WhatsApp and does not shop for you. But for knowledge work it is often the most careful, and it asks before acting on your behalf.

  • Not built for shopping, bookings or messaging strangers

  • Rolling out gradually, so two people on the same plan may see different screens
  • Heavy use pushes you to the $100 or $200 Max plans

What it costs

Claude Pro costs $20 a month ($17 billed annually). Max 5x costs $100 and Max 20x $200 a month. The merged experience reaches Pro and Max first, then Team and Free.

Claude asks for permission before acting in connected apps, connectors are scoped per workspace, and Enterprise admins get 30 days' notice before changes.

Questions and answers

Is Claude Cowork gone?

Not really. The separate Cowork button disappears, but everything Cowork did now works inside any Claude conversation. Existing tasks, projects, connectors and skills carry over.

Did the price change after the merge?

No. Anthropic announced no price change. Pro stays at $20 and the Max plans at $100 and $200 a month.
