How to set up OpenAI Dots

Steps

   Open Dots on desktop or web

   Sign in to ChatGPT on the desktop app or the web and open Dots from the sidebar, or start one from Codex. The first setup has to happen there; afterwards your Dot is on mobile too.

   Name it and choose its look

   Give your primary Dot a name, colour, eye shape and accessories. You can change them any time, so do not overthink it.

   Connect only the apps it needs

   Add apps from the plugin directory one by one. For the first week, connect email and calendar read-only if the app allows it, and skip banking and admin tools.

   Write Custom Rules

   Open the rules panel and set what the Dot may do alone, what needs approval and what is banned. Paste the output of our rules generator as a starting point.

5. 5

   Add Slack or Teams if you work there

   Install the Dots integration in Slack or Microsoft Teams so you can message your Dot where your team already talks. Context carries over between surfaces.

6. 6

   Give it a read-only first task

   Ask for a morning digest of important emails and today's meetings. Watch the Activity View to see how it works before letting it send anything.
